Thanks for all the ideas everyone…I looked at Productreview.com.au but found the majority of shavers to have a 4 or 5 out 5 rating, and none really stood out as the ‘best’ so thought I’d get some ideas on here too.

I’ve looked at the Shaver Shop in Belco mall they have a sale on so I’ll look into everyone’s suggestions and see how we go…THANKS!!

+1 on the Braun Foil Series 7. Pretty close shave, no skin irritation, quick, clean and convenient.

Got it from the Shaver Shop in the Canberra Centre during a sale. The sale discount was significant from memory, around 50% off so it may be worth waiting until the next sale.

I’ll also add that if you husband is switching from a razor to electric, it takes a bit of time for ones whiskers/face to ‘adjust’ to the different shaving style. Something to do with how the hairs grow. He’ll get best results after a week or two of use.

Likewise. Eventually, my response was to grow a beard. Never going back.

I had a Braun many moons ago, and it was pretty good. However, not quite close enough to pass a parade inspection. Philishave was better, but still not as close as a razor.

Yep, has been in existence for close to 10 years now, I’d just assume that is a new location.

I used to have phillishaves (the ones with the 3 round head bits). They gave me terrible shaving rash, but I stuck with them because I didn’t know any better.

Switched to a Braun series 7 a few years back (the two long roller-looking head bits, also known as foils), with greatly reduced shaving rash (almost none). I also splurged and got the one with the self cleaning recharge station. But then you’re caught in the trap of buying cleaning fluid refills. Which, in germany cost about 20 euros for 6, but here cost 20 dollars for 2. 🙁

As for where to buy: the internet. Unless a local store is having a pretty good sale, prices on the ‘net are damn near half of what the local shops charge. Ebay can be good (look for ones located in Australia saying they have australian stock, to make sure you get an aussie plug), or if that gives you the heeby jeebies,more ‘legit’ online places like Billy Guyatt or Peter’s of Kensington.

I’ve had a Phillishave 200 for about ten years. It’s pretty good, and very reliable. Pretty close to a blade.

The type of shaver (foil/rotary) is up to the individuals preferences and skin/hair type. Rotaries are better if hair is thicker or grows is various directions. Is that is not the case than can use a foil.

The shaver shop (several locations across canberra) is really the only place on get one from, best range and informed staff. Myers, dj etc do stock a reduced selection and might be better priced, but I would start at the shaver shop.

I bought my first electric one about 6-12 months ago. It is a Panasonic foil with cleaning tray thing. It was top of the line, but I am happy with it, not sure if that helps at all though.
