On the telly just then, Mike Kelly’s slogan:
“Keep Kelly Working”.
I think it’s a shocker – as though the objective of your local member is to stay in work his or herself! Sense of entitlement much?

I read it as Keep Kelly Working for you – but I am kind and lovable.
On a serious note, I do hate the sloganeering – moving forward is a no brainer but slogans are not new they are just getting dumber – or maybe we are getting more jaded in the information cyberspace age.
Following on from Mr Evil what about “Working Australians Going Forward with Mike on a Big New Tax”.
Swinging voters are not to be chastised without them we would still be stuck with Work Choices. These days there is not much to separate the two major parties so ideologically speaking a swinging voter shows more care and concern than those who blindly vote for their team on tradition without much thought to the big picture.

Thanks Frano and George,
Is John Barilaro running for State office? At least he’ll have a chance.
In reality my lack of understanding of E-Ms candidates is case in point of how little I care about Eden-Monaro as a seat, the Nationals as a party and the bogan swinging voters that indirectly decide policy agenda in this country. Like you two.
George, your right wing politics have found a home on the riot act like a tick finds a home on a cows bum. Lets keep this forum clean of the Nationals brand of sheep-shagging rhetoric eh?
“Bogan swinging voters”. BundahBoy, your based your “argument” on some huge assumptions! My friends have called me plenty of nasty names, but I am not sure I have ever been called a “bogan”. Not sure whether to thank you or not? Secondly, you have no idea whether I even vote at all and if I do, whom I vote for, or whether I am a “swinging voter” or not. Why would you describe a “swinging voter”, someone by definition who assesses all parties and policies before casting their vote, rather than voting blindly for a party, as a “bogan”. As I tried to point out to you, but obviously failed, Eden-Monaro is the bell-weather seat of every election. Rather than sinking to childish branding of other bloggers and describing one of the most representative seats in the country as “hick”, grow up, learn your facts about the candidates and try to debate properly rather than resorting to ad hominem arguments. I am happy to debate and be proved wrong, but please play the ball and not the man.

Gary Nairn was Howards hairier stunt double. If Nationals candidate John Barilaro cant win a hick seat like Eden Monaro then Kelly deserves to keep working (at being lazy).
“A hick seat like “Eden Monaro”? As George has said, not only does BundahBoy confuse state candidates with federal candidates, he doesn’t understand the seat of Eden Monaro at all. I would hardly call EM a “hick” seat. EM is considered THE bell-weather seat of the nation! Very diverse, people from all walks of life, arguably the most representative seat of the whole country. EM is always a close seat, generally the party that wins the seat wins government and thus is always in the sights of both parties. BundahBoy, you may want to brush up on your politics before you cast your vote on August 21.
As the Capital of Eden-Monaro, Queanbeyan is once again shown to be the ultimate destination, Canberra merely the gateway.

Ah Bundahboy. Of the 150 divisions, all eyes, I suspect, will be on Eden-Monaro in the party headquarters when 21 August comes around. I would hardly call it a hick seat.

BundahBoy, just so you have a better understanding of waht you are talking about – John Barilaro is a candidate for Monaro in the State Election due next month. David Gazard is contesting Eden Monaro against Mike Kelly. In Australia we have Local Government, State and Federal Electios.

They were probably devised by the same person as it’s just as bad as “moving forward”.
Given that Labor is the only one trying to drag workchoices from the grave, I don’t see how moving forward is an appropriate slogan. Therefore, I think a better slogan would be “Gillard: moving foward by looking back” or should that be “going backwards”? They could also use “Kelly who?” for the eden-monaro campaign.
Gary Nairn was Howards hairier stunt double. If Nationals candidate John Barilaro cant win a hick seat like Eden Monaro then Kelly deserves to keep working (at being lazy).
Obviously his daughter’s name is Kelly – and that if you re-elect Mr Kelly then is good for employment (generally) and therefore Kelly Kelly will keep her job. Keep Kelly (Kelly) Working. Dont let her stop – its a Work Choices thing
I think “Mike Kelly – Rat on Defence Welfare Pensioners” would be more appropriate.

It’s just a suggestion – I didn’t say it was a good one.
It may or may not be a ‘good’ one, but it’s definitely an improvement.

I have much to learn about many things John. That’s never stopedp me having an opinion on them though! 😉

I’m with the Nationals and we attend every show across the Monaro that’s possible and I have only seen Mike at two shows – and all he did was a walk through.
He was once to open the show and didn’t turn up.
Everyone knows that the country show is the social event of most small towns and villages.
I know that former Member, Gary Nairn, used to attend every show possible as does the State Member, Steve Whan and the Nationals candidate John Barilaro.
Good god, no wonder the Hick Yokel Redneck Wurzel Party sorry Nationals don’t get any support. If you think “attending country shows” is the best way for a politician to spend his time “working”, you should read a book on “p-o-l-i-t-i-c-s”!!

keep kelly working – elect someone else and give him a job at raodworks enforcing speed limits; someone has to!
I don’t think he would be very good at this job…I saw him once just prior to the last election at one of those MacDonald stops on the Federal Highway – he happened to be leaving the same time as me and he shot off into the distance at a roaring speed well in excess of the speed limit.
Well, I think it’s entirely appropriate.
The only other fitting slogan for him would be
WAKE UP MIKE
I’d say it was a very apt slogan for Mike Kelly because if you hear any criticism of him across the electorate is that he is lazy.

It does appear to be legit coverage, here’s something from The Age dated today, mentioning the slogan.
Its terrible, in that it isn’t a statement of any kind, but carries the connotation that he needs to be forced to do things instead of the “Let him keep doing good things for you” they were most likely after.
Alternately, it offers a kind of implicit threat that the public will be responsible for things going wrong.
But it becomes mildly entertaining if you imagine it similar to the bus from Speed, and that Kelly becomes a public threat if his productivity drops below a certain threshold.
“For the love of god, Keep Kelly Working!!! If he stops, KABOOM…“
(Idea for campaign advisors: “Kelly Works” diferentiates Kelly from the competition in that he does work, and they don’t…)
Eden Monaro isn’t it?
Kelly’s got the gumboots on for ya
or
I do Mo for yo
or
Free beer for ya vote… maybe
I think he’s going for “Allow Kelly to keep working (for you)”, as opposed to “Make Kelly work”. It’s not a good slogan if you have to think about it, though.
That is wrong on so many levels.
I am over ‘moving forward’ as well. Roll on 21 August!
Worst slogan I have ever heard – it implies that he needs to be pressured to keep doing his job, perhaps he could change it to “Perfromance manage me to stop me being lazy”.
He will have a new slogan befroe the end of the campaign.
