ACT Fire Brigade are continuing firefighting operations and attacking the fire with large quantities of foam. ACT Fire Brigade advise explosions may continue through firefighting operations until the fire is extinguished.

Some residue including oil and firefighting material from the site has been identified in the Flemington Road ponds. This area has been isolated and the contaminated water is being removed.

The EPA is also conducting testing along all waterways leading into Lake Burley Griffin.

Big word up to JohnBoy for keeping the reporting up. Just goes to show how social media forms are more on the ball than traditional media (I’m looking at you, Canb Times website).

I was browsing around 2am and there were very few comments online (presumably waiting for moderation approval). Im not in the affected area so didnt receive the notifications. As of about 3am there was no update on here so I presumed the ‘factory fire’ was just a minor incident until I woke up. Since then though, the coverage here has been great to see. RiotACT really does show its usefulness to the whole city during events like this, with current reporting on-the-ground.

As for the CT coverage, a quick look at the front page seems to show about 5 links that arent related to the fire in some way, so it seems fairly in-depth, even if not as current as what we might find here.

I am hearing quite a few loud bangs from my location about 6 kilometres away from Mitchell. Hard to tell if these are the site, or normal construction work magnified by paranoia.

My dog is reacting to them quite strongly too, and she’s not given to paranoia. What else is exploding, I wonder.

LBG is now CLOSED FYI.
