Uhh, it comes from increased news coverage since all of the anti-binge drinking/anti-smoking advertisement and media push. There is probably no major, statistically significant difference between drinking levels now and drinking levels in 2001, it just appears to be on the rise as the media is more clued into the issue and is publishing more drinking-related content – it sells. I bet you think pedophilia and government corruption are new things too.

I wonder how long until the follow-up article about a 22 year old woman being charged for driving unlicenced. If they dont respect one law, why would they respect another without proper punishment?

afaik some users were reporting police car locations too. another clever person reported the location of the police station, opposite woden bus stop.

I’m not sure if this really is the case – is the increase on positive readings based on an increased population and as a result the likelihood of increased numbers of positive tests? It may still be the same result against the percentage of population.

Is it a case that we believe that there are more alcohol fueled incidents based on increased reporting and information flows? There seems to be more disaters in the world but are there? Is it simply because of increased information flows and the ability to receive the information?

You seem to have picked up the same thing i have, nearly every day we haer about more drink drivers busted, or pub glassings, drunk accidents, cops abused at pubs, etc. etc.

I have to wonder though, what part of it is an increase in drinking, what part of it is a decrease in discipline, and what part is simply due to an increase in reporting exposure.

Our road tolls are down significantly from the 70’s, and a fair amount of this is to due with a huge drop in those years in the cases of drink driving, something that people once just thought normal.

and you cant say that there was not a huge drinking culture here 40 years ago, pubs see just as many patrons, and brawls (though the glassing seems to be a trend these days)

Reporting on it is also allot more widespread, we get more info, sooner on busted drink driving, and RBT results, and news has gone far beyond the nightly Brian Henderson, and morning paper.

What really stumps me, is with all this extra coverage, the results of drink driving are well known, yet we still get people going around at 0.1 or more, well over the limit. you would think people might work it out.

Maybe we are becoming to de-sensitised???

And yes, it seems to be getting worse here at the moment!

Except this was a breath test conducted after police observed “the manner in which she was driving” and not a roadside breath testing station. Although, JB, I will give you the benefit of the doubt: there may be, somewhere, a facebook page with up-to-the-minute information on the location of every police car in Canberra.
