A 22-year-old woman was arrested by ACT Policing last night (Friday, July 8) for drink driving after being detected with an alcohol content more than five times over the legal limit.
Around 11.55pm police intercepted the woman in her vehicle on Yamba Drive in Phillip due to the manner in which she was driving. The female driver underwent a roadside screening test which returned a positive result. She was taken to the Woden Police Station for a breath analysis.
The woman was found to have an Alcohol Content (AC) of 0.256 which is more than five times the 0.05 limit for a full licence holder. Due to the high level of alcohol in the woman’s body, her ACT driver’s licence was immediately suspended.
Superintendent Mick Calatzis said this latest incident is very alarming given the high reading detected.
“When you have a person driving their vehicle while more than five times over the legal limit, this places her life and the lives of other road users at serious risk,” he said.
The woman will be summonsed to appear at the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.
