Has anyone here moved a Piano.
Who did you use and was it expensive?
Use an actual piano mover and not a general mover. I unfortunately didn’t go with Beethoven when I moved mine and the company I used was completely incompetent and even made us help them! They said, “wow, this is really big and heavy” – and it was about one of the smallest pianos you can get. Next time I will go with the well-reputed Beethoven.
Another great tuner is Nada Jasz. http://www.pianocare.com.au. I’ve been having her tune my piano for the last few years. Her prices are reasonable, too.
Actually we all need to tune our pianos. Gabrielle’s action and tune are hating all this rain and the annual warm-up! I’ve tried all the tuners I’m aware of in town and they are all very dedicated and experienced.
Definitely use Beethoven for the move: they just know every quirk of every model. I know the general removalists are careful but Beethoven are no more expensive and do nothing else.
Acoustic Tuner Services (0410 648 989) are Braidwood based but travel to Canberra each day to tune pianos. We used them a while back for our piano that sits in the garage, and thus needs annual tuning to avoid suffering too much in this climate. (He also moves pianos, I am told)
Don’t use REM for the following reason:
I’m pushing an elephant up the stairs
I’m tossing up punch lines that were never there
Over my shoulder a piano falls
Crashing to the ground
Don’t forget that after you move a piano you will need to get it tuned. Leave it for 3 weeks or so to settle into its new environment, and then call a tuner.
I’ve only used general furniture removalists but they’re just too variable according to who’s on the truck that day – had one which was super careful, and another where they carried my upright rather than using the piano trolley and put it down with a tune-losing BANG! Ack!
I haven’t used Beethoven, but I haven’t heard anything negative about them at all.
I’ve only ever used Beethoven. They are excellent. The last time I had one moved, it was around the $150 mark, but money well spent. Do not get a general furniture removalist. They really don’t move them carefully enough.
+1 to Beethoven Piano Movers, they moved ours when we moved house. They were careful and got it up a flight of steps we had with ease. Cost round $150
Most movers will do it for an added price, they will ask if it is a steel frame or not, upright or grand etc. We had one moved a few years back that was an old upright with steel frame, I think it cost about $150.
Yes, I have heard in the past that Beethoven’s piano movements are highly rated.
Beethoven Piano Movers has moved every piano I’ve ever seen being moved in Canberra. (Used to work in corporate event staging so I’ve seen a lot of pianos being moved!)
No idea how much they charge, but they sure know their stuff.
