Ever wondered what it’s like to work at the National Portrait Gallery? It’s a place full of very serious individuals who would never be caught having fun or busting out funky dance moves…
Or would they?
Today, the National Portrait Gallery need your support to help them get through to the third round of an international #museumdanceoff. That’s right people, it’s a dance-off for cultural institutions around the world, instigated by none other than whenyouworkatamuseum.com.
The dance clip starts in the security control room, where a security guard is kicking-back drinking a cuppa until something on the security camera stops him mid-sip. A fun and funky mash-up of dance moves by various NPG staff members ensues, featuring art handlers rolling around on dollies and A-frames, the visitor services crew getting jiggy in a freight lift, and newly appointed Director, Angus Trumble, leading staff in a choreographed routine across the Gordon Darling Hall. Filmed in their spare time to Janelle Monae’s Tightrope, the NPG staff have succeeded in pulling together a video so catchy it makes you want to jump up from your own office chair and bust some moves.
The NPG are the only Australian entrant, which means today’s voting boils down to a matter of national pride. The gallery is up against the Otago Museum in New Zealand, who have put together a dance number to Iggy Azalea’s Fancy. To vote, jump onto whenyouworkatamuseum.com (voting closes 10pm tonight).
