Internode has been a revalation, great service, great speeds, not the cheapest downloadwise, but I heartily reccommend them.

ON NO ACCOUNT sign up with Virgin broadband, they are the worse ISP I have ever encountered in 20 years of online life here and in the UK.

Dear OP: Poor as the TransACT-based ISPs’ service might be; instead of jumping to wild conclusions just because you can’t reach one of their nameservers, try diagnosing the problem a little. You know, looking at the lights on your router or it’s statistics webpage, doing a traceroute from your PC etc. Tracerouting without resolving names (-d windows, -n unix) to a random address (say, 4.4.4.4) would have clearly shown Internet connectivity.
.. then check Whirlpool.

I assume this comment is directed to me. FYI netspeed is not my broadband ISP. I have been with Netspeed for 10 years and still maintain an email address with them and also an infrequently used dial up account. I have never heard of Whirlpool but even if I had, Brian’s comment was made after my original post, and as there had been a discussion here previously, I asked a simple question and I got a simple answer. Thanks for your suggestions anyway I’ll bear it in mind for future reference.

they aren’t out of business, I can see the lights on in their office. Whirlpool forums have a thread reporting an issue this morning, looks as if it hit at midnight. some people are back online and OK.
