Yes, this is true. My monitor isn’t calibrated, but I’ve a catalog of anecdotal evidence to suggest it’s reasonably accurate.

I’ll be a good boy and keep my room ever so tidy for teh next month, maybe my wife will let me buy a new filter then. 🙂
It is a very nice shot, but my tip would be to buy the filter and spent less time in post. IMO this pic has been pushed that tiny fraction too far.
It is interesting. I first saw it on a colour managed display (properly set up using a colourimeter) and it looks fine.
When I saw your comment, I turned off the management and used the default monitor profile, and could see where you’re coming from. It did look more harsh and even showed some posterisation.
