Chris Bourke has announced the release of “Our Kin, Our Country” a two-year ACT Government study into Canberra’s Aboriginal lineage.
Amongst other important reasons to undertake this work is the issue of $500 fees for “Welcome to Country” ceremonies. If your tribe isn’t on the “This is XXXX Land” signs your fee goes down. (Let’s face it $500 for 5 minutes work and some canapes on top is a nice deal if you can get it).
“Effectively, we have found several clans are connected to the land in our region,” Dr Bourke said.
“These clans, throughout history, have proven to comprise a resilient regional population of Aboriginal people maintained through a web of family networks in the immediate region surrounding Canberra.”
