ACT Policing divers have located the body of a 16-year-old male who went missing at Pine Island late this afternoon (Thursday 24 February).
Around 6.00pm today ACT Policing was notified that a 16-year-old male had gone missing while swimming with a group of friends at Pine Island. Police divers were joined by SES volunteers, ACT Ambulance Service, ACT Rangers, ACT Fire Brigade and the South Care helicopter to conduct an extensive search of the area.
The body of the 16-year-old male was located around 8.30pm this evening, a short distance from where he went missing.
Sergeant Mick Serbatoio said that there are several factors that can make it dangerous for swimmers in this area.
“We have had a lot of rain recently and there’s a lot of debris in the water. I urge people to take care when swimming in areas such as this and to always swim with another person,” Sergeant Serbatoio said.
