A police officer suffered minor injuries when they were allegedly hit by a car when its driver was trying to escape from being arrested.
An ACT Policing spokesperson stated that officers spotted a man, allegedly identified as 27-year-old Troy Robert Leslie Gillett, in Fyshwick on Friday afternoon (7 November).
The officers tried to arrest the man when he left a store, but he allegedly got into a vehicle and drove away. While doing so, he reportedly hit one officer in the leg and drove at another as he fled.
“Police in vehicles nearby activated their emergency lights and sirens, but the man refused to pull over, driving on the wrong side of the road and almost colliding with other vehicles,” the spokesperson alleged.
The officer struck by the vehicle did not require hospital admission.
Officers went to a home in Ainslie on Saturday afternoon (8 November), where they allegedly found Gillett on the roof.
Gillett was charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop for police and driving while disqualified when he faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday (10 November).
His lawyer stated that he would not apply for bail that day but would attempt to be granted bail later this week.
Magistrate Alexandra Burt remanded him in custody and listed a bail application for Thursday (13 November).
