Police Seek Mr Toad

ACT Policing is calling for witnesses to a dangerous high-speed ride through traffic by a motorcyclist this afternoon (Thursday, May 5) in Tuggeranong and Weston.

About 3:10pm today, a police vehicle was stopped at the intersection of O’Halloran Circuit and Drakeford Drive, in Kambah when officers observed a motorcycle travelling north at high speed on Drakeford Drive.

The motorcycle was a black sports bike (brand undetermined) with the rider wearing a white jacket and dark-coloured helmet. The motorbike was estimated to be travelling about 150km/h in the 80km/h zone.

Police followed the bike and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on it. However, they were ignored by the rider and a pursuit commenced.

The pursuit continued onto Weston, where the rider rode dangerously over a footpath, cut in front of vehicles, and veered onto the incorrect side of the road.

Due to the danger this posed, and the motorcycle’s close proximity to pedestrians and road users, police terminated the pursuit, which had lasted for less than two minutes.

At times, the speed of the bike was estimated around 160km/h on Namatjira Drive, Weston.

Police believe the dangerous actions of this rider were witnessed by a number of people. So, the police chased this guy from Kambah to Weston at 3pm on a weekday at speeds in excess of 150km/hr in their 2-ton police car, after he didnt stop initially in Kambah.. and it took them until they reached Weston Creek to think that it could be dangerous travelling at that speed?

Wonder how long until there’ll be a speed camera setup northbound near the Kambah Village now, to catch these people..

You can’t seriously assume that the cops did the same speed as this idiot?

No way I’d be a copper in this town, they can’t win. If they chase the Mulleys out there and the offender crashes, it’s the cop’s fault. If some idiot on a bike speeds but they end the pursuit in less than 2 minutes, resulting in no crash or fatalities, it’s the cop’s fault…

Number plates can be pretty hard to read at a distance, especially when both you and the vehicle in question are either accelerating or decelerating from high speed.

Do Canberra cop cars have cameras on them yet?

Unless it was naother unregistered vehicle out there….

What good would taking the rego have done. The bike was most likely stolen and would have been found abandoned/destroyed. That’s why pursuit is the best and only option

The bike tore through the 40km school zone past St John Vianney’s yesterday while I was there. He was certainly moving but I didn’t see/hear the police after him at the time. They may have actually aborted pursuit before Weston (or more likely radioed ahead).
