Have our Gov employees been so brow beaten that they are unable to question this sort of stupidity?
I blame it on the blameless Stanhope.
a) Yes;
b) No, this one isn’t his fault. Working in Act Admin 20 years ago the situation was as bad, possibly worse. The culture of dispair existed even before ‘selfgovernment’ due to Department of Territories being used as a dumping ground for stupid and incompetent ministers (frex Scholes, Uren) and was aggravated by the selfgovernment farce.
Of course, fixing it was Stanhope’s responsibility, so by all means blame him for not doing so!
That’s a bit harsh! If there was something that should have been “fixed” then it was the responsibility of each and every Chief Minister, both Labor and Liberal. Jon was not the first nor the last in this line, so why pick him out rather than Rosemary, Kate, Katie,Gary etc. He was the longest serving, but even his tenure is less than half of the period of self government.
One eyed I’d call it.
The grass has now been removed. I assume to allow for painting 🙂
Katy G was not amused.
“no, not acceptable. Grass has been removed and contractor reminded of obligations. will be fixed tomorrow or monday”
“TAMS very quick to respond but was a contractor job, a very public shortfall in approp standards.”
Still funny though.

There are many a driver who get upset when you use the outside lane while they are making their inside right turn, as though they should be the only ones on the roundabout and if you are there too you must be trying to crash into them.

I think you can forgive people still stopping while they get used to it. After a couple of weeks though it might start causing accidents if people are still doing it.
I agree about people stopping in the left hand lane for people turning right from the middle lane on Anzac Pde as if they might just decide to continue on straight into the lake. Always frustrated the hell out of me.
Yes will forgive whilst they get used to it, but don’t reckon many will get used to it. As for the situation you described above, previoulsy if the car was turning right from the centre then a car in the left hand lane city bound had to stop because the turning car would have been in the outside lane of the roundabout. What was annoying were cars stopping in the left lane when the car was turning from the right hand which feed to the centre lane of the roundabout. (or is that what you were meaning)
Yeah, that is what I meant. Giving way unnecessarily to people in the right hand turning lane. Got my lanes mixed up.

Speaking of marking some interesting work going on today at the Anzac PDE Parkes Way Roundabout. Finally some common sense, by marking the left lane city bound as a ‘bypass’ lane. Wonder how many will still stop to wait for cars turning right off Anzac PDE though?
heaps. Canberra drivers are nobs, everyone knows this 🙂

What was the line-marker operator suppose to do? .
Just a crazy suggestion, but how about…do his job properly?
Would have taken a couple of minutes to jump down and cut that grass out with a shovel.
What was the line-marker operator suppose to do? How about a bunch of people pick crap out of your work even though they obviously have no idea what they are talking about. It is an amusing picture for sure but that is it. I remember when I was in school many years ago the Canberra Times had a photo of a dead magpie in the middle of the road with the lines painted straight over it, now that was lazy.

I wonder what the operator’s thought process was when he encountered this aberation.
The path is normally laid out by surveyor type people, marking the path with some accuracy.
‘I’m just doing what they pay me for, I’m not paid to think, I’ll get paid when I have to re-do it.”

So what was the operator to do, swing the lane marking in to match the road or stop the spray and start again when the road came back? Simple fact is this is a ‘country’ road, so lower quality than our city roads so you are going to have edges like this, and the spray operator has done the sensible thing.

Unless they’ve changed it, last I checked, of the three lanes out of Anzac Parade, one is left turn only, the middle lane is left or right turn and the right one is right turn only.
People are probably stopping to make sure that they’re not going to collide with someone who is turning right onto Parkes Way from the outside (centre from Anzac Pde) lane
If you read what I said, they were doing the lane marking yesterday, so did you check yesterday? So I assume now they have made the roundabout single lane for turns off Anzac Pde they would have also modified the lane markings on Anzac Pde to match, specificaly the right lane is right only, and the middle and left lanes left turn only. Which incidentally is how this roundabout used to be until a few years back.
Now having said that I was for ever seeing cars in the left lane stop at this roundabout when cars where turning right in the middle lane of the roundabout, when there was no reason for it. Not the only place either, happens at most roundabouts. I reckon now even with the left lane on Parkes Way clearly marked as a segregated ‘bypass’ lane people will still stop. End result will be a few rear enders in that lane,

You’ll find that line marking is contracted out to private companies these days. The conversation was more likely to be along the lines of:
Painter: Hey boss, the road isn’t wide enough for the line.
Supervisor: Don’t care. Just keep the truck moving – time is money.
Yeah I’m sure we’ll see some accident damage shortly where someone will attempt to continue using the middle lane to turn right and either collect the car beside them or one proceeding along parkes way.

Looks like they lined up their road making perfectly with that convenient strip of white couch. Clever.

arrggh, how sadly true…maybe only sickening to those who have lived elsewhere, as to me, this photo seems such a succinct illustration of life in Canberra. Ludicrous shoddy incompetence we all pay through the nose for… When will the ACT residents insist this so called ACT government improves, lifts to meet even the standards of a country council would be a great improvement, what happened to basic systematic process, let alone commonsense?
