Is there something funny going on with the Captain’s Flat radar again?
Just that there has been an area of heavy rain centred over the radar for several hours (since 11 am or so).
It doesn’t seem to be moving.

A phenomenon called ‘Bright Banding’ might also have contributed to it;

It is worth pointing out that Captains Flat and the state/national forests apparently got pelted with rain yesterday and overnight. The word in Braidwood this morning, before coming into work, was that many of the creeks and rivers were full or flooded and quite a few of the crossings were under water.
The Flat got 91mm out of that event, pretty good! Braidwood got 70. A lot of it seemed centered on the Tinderries early-on, before it contracted north and swamped Goulburn.
BTW, I hope someone got a picture of the snow on the tinderries today!
Yeah I was following it pretty regularly yesterday and it clearly wasn’t giving very accurate results. Definitely needs some more calibration at closer ranges.
I’ve been told it was probably caused by the rain clouds being at a low altitude near the radar. Since the beam goes out in a cone there is more power in the signal nearer the radar and thus a higher reflection from the moisture rich clouds close in.
Here’s a PDF that explains how weather radar works;

I looked at it yesterday and said there’s some heavy rain coming this way and after doing that a few times I started to wonder.

I noticed last night that it appeared to be recording heavier falls closer to the radar site.
Might need a bit more calibration?
Noticed it yesterday too, in the immediate vicinity of the radar, in almost a perfect circle, showed as yellow moderate rainfall, where everywhere else showed light-to-moderate dark blue/aqua rainfall. It was so localized and in such a pattern I assumed a radar fault also.
