Police are seeking witnesses to a ram-raid in the Belconnen region over the weekend, in which a group caused serious damage to a store during their attempt to steal an ATM.

A stolen front loader was driven into the front windows at a shop in Kippax Fair, Holt, on Saturday morning (13 September), an ACT Policing spokesperson said.

Police arrived later that morning and said they believed the offenders were trying to steal an ATM.

“The large metal bollards in front of the shopping centre prevented the vehicle from gaining further access into the building, and the attempt to steal the ATM was unsuccessful,” the police spokesperson said.

“The offenders then fled the scene.”

The front loader was taken for forensic testing and police are investigating the incident.

“Businesses and shopping centres are reminded that ATMs are at times targeted by thieves, so security should be as strong as possible to deter and prevent such incidents,” the spokesperson said.

Police are asking for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or saw any suspicious behaviour in or around Kippax Fair on Saturday morning, to contact them.
