Ten of the 24 drink-drivers apprehended by ACT Policing during the week (ending October 24) were found to have a zero limit restriction on their licences.
In the period October 17-24, police found that two of the 0.0 licence-holders had three previous drink-driving convictions, and one had four previous drink-driving convictions.
A 52-year-old Braddon man recorded the highest reading of the week, returning a positive reading of 0.189. He was charged with drink-driving, driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle, and unlicensed driver. He will face the ACT Magistrates Court on Friday 4 November.
Since July 1, ACT Policing has conducted more than 25,000 random breath tests, with 462 tests returning a positive roadside reading result. This is an average of one drink driver in every 60 drivers tested.
Of the 462 positive results since July 1, 162 were drivers with a zero limit restriction on their licence. Among those who have a zero alcohol restriction on their licence are learner drivers, heavy vehicle drivers, bus drivers, taxi drivers, provisional drivers and holders of international licences.
Police will continue to target drink-driving across Canberra.
