The ABC has the happy news that Canberra’s Dr Sarah Macneil is to be consecrated as Australia’s first Anglican female bishop:

Dr Macneil was unanimously chosen by a nomination board appointed by diocesan synod, and will leave her post as senior associate priest at Canberra’s Holy Covenant Anglican Church.

She is a former dean of Adelaide and archdeacon in the Canberra-Goulburn diocese.

Several other women have been consecrated as bishops in the Anglican Church, but Dr Macneil’s appointment is a national first for Australia.

She says she is overwhelmed and humbled by her selection and says the decision reflects a growing acceptance of the place of women in senior church leadership.
