Stromlo Forest Park is hosting the Scott 25 Hour Mountain Bike event this weekend.
Many roads will be “controlled” during the event, and a map highlighting them is available on the Stromlo Forest Park website www.stromloforestpark.com.au
“It’s going to be a huge week for mountain biking in October,” says Neale Guthrie, General Manager of Venue and Event Services, ACT Government Economic Development Directorate.
“We start with the Scott 25 Hour on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 October and will then host the WEMBO World Solo 24 Hour Championships the following weekend, Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 October.”
The public roads surrounding Stromlo Forest Park will be controlled by temporary traffic signage and reduced speed limits from midnight Thursday 3 October 2013 to midnight Monday 7 October 2013.
“We have introduced some safety measures around Stromlo Forest Park for the Scott 25 Hour to take into consideration the popularity of such events in the ACT, the future development in the area and the growth in population.
“The most significant measure is a reduction in the speed limit to 40 kilometres per hour on roadsbordering Stromlo Forest Park including Cotter Road and Uriarra Road.”
Participants and spectators are being advised to park in the designated parking areas within Stromlo Forest Park and are reminded that parking on the surrounding roadsides and verges is illegal and may attract a fine.
Canberra Off Road Cycling is celebrating their twenty fifth anniversary this year. This will be the seventh year the 24 hour race is held at Stromlo Forest Park, which has been extended to 25 hours in acknowledgement of this achievement.
“There have been a number of successful endurance events at Stromlo Forest Park in the past; the aim of these measures is to assist them to continue safely for participants and the community in the future,” Mr Guthrie said.
