The Greens have said they won the chairmanship of the “Select Committee on Ecological Carrying Capacity for the ACT and region”.
Does anyone know what this committee is doing?
Any links?

I think that because the usual suspects quote lots of numbers and big words, it’s seen as more official or something.
We are part of the ecology, if affects us and we affect it. We can’t apply economics to it and somehow “manage” it with theories and graphs. I think that, when looking at soemthing like this, it really has to be people who are mindful of the fact that nature is where it starts and ends.
Yeah, cos we all know Labour, Liberal, state or federal, local councillors are paragons of objectivity. Pffff….
Since every body are part of the Ecology Carried by the ACT and region, I don’t really see how you can consider anyone more or less impartial. While the Greens might have a stated intention of protecting the environment, it’s not like the opposite is a great thing to promote.
I’d rather see the greens steering this, than the usual pro-development types blinded by economics, who won’t consider anything that can’t be quantified ie living conditions, amenity, quality of life etc.
My guess would be that they are looking at the Ecological Carrying Capacity for the ACT and region.
Impact of population growth, industrial capacity, allocation of natural resourses, power generation, water usage and storage capacity etc…
Putting the Greens in charge is an interesting move though. I’d like to see someone slightly more impartial (or even less rabid) in the job.
