In case you havn’t looked outside for the last hour or two, there is a massive storm system working its way towards the ACT.
BoM issued a warning at 3:55pm.
Wish I had my camera an hour ago, it looked very impressive coming this way!

Another great forecast by the bureau, absolutely nothing. A real light sleet which wasn’t enough to wet the footpath was the worst of it.
The clouds to the west are snow clouds. But sadly it is a tad too warm for the snow to settle. The very light rain that has been through Canberra tonight is snow, but again it is too warm.
Grundy was right, they did issue a SWA around 3pm, but for some reason Weatherzone didn’t have it on earlier. It’s on now, yuck. I won’t get much sleep tonight, 90 km/hr winds, my favourite.
NSW SEVERE WEATHER WARNING
Damaging Winds
For people in
the Southern Tablelands, ACT, Illawarra, South West Slopes, northern parts of
the South Coast, and southern parts of the Central Tablelands.
Issued at 3:55 pm on Friday 15 May 2009
Synoptic Situation: 3:00 pm EST Friday
A high over southwest Australia extends a ridge to northern NSW, while a deep
low is well south of Tasmania. A strong pressure gradient between these systems
is generating a vigorous westerly airflow over southeastern Australia. Winds are
likely to increase further early Saturday as a front embedded within this flow
moves across the region.
Tonight: Locations above 1200 metres may experience W/NW winds averaging over 65
km/h with peak wind gusts exceeding 90 km/h.
Saturday: W/NW winds increasing early, with average strengths of 65 km/h and
peak gusts of 90 km/h possible at all elevations in the warning area, although
chiefly about more exposed parts. Winds turning SW’ly and gradually easing later
in the day.
Emergency services advise you to keep clear of fallen power lines, stay indoors
away from windows and keep children indoors.
The National Parks and Wildlife Service recommends that people consider
postponing back country travel until conditions improve.
For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES [NSW and ACT] on telephone
number 132 500.
Windy as all get out up here in Gungahlin, but the BOM radar is showing no rain anywhere near Canberra at the moment. 🙁
red tint to the sky and everything outside at the moment, took some photos on the phone’s cam, but they are really bad.
Impressive clouds on the east and west, but clear overhead.
Damn I wish I had that camera a few hours ago! >.<

hmmm. There’s no current warnings on Wz, and there’s nothing much on the radar or satellite, either. Evidently there was a t-storm west of our ranges a while back, which has now fizzled out.
A nice big blob of moisture working its way up toward us from the SW, but it’s still in Vic. Direction is promising though. Might get a bit of snow on the mtns tomorrow, maybe. And a lotta wind.
looks like day after tomorrow cloud here in phillip. very nice formation. really cold tho.

I saw a giant mound of impressive cloud to the west at lunchtime, but haven’t been onto weatherzone today to check it out, thanks for the heads up, grundy.
Up on this hill I had a fantastic view of it coming in at around 1530, however I don’t think my crappy phone camera would do it any justice.
