Simon Corbell has more good news for us in what’s turning into the governmental equivalent of Christmas.

A new plan that outlines how Canberra residents can receive essential legal assistance in times of a major emergency has been launched today by Attorney-General, Simon Corbell.

Mr Corbell joined with Legal Aid ACT, the ACT Law Society and the Women’s Legal Centre to unveil the plan.

“The ACT Emergency Legal Help plan has been developed by the ACT Legal Assistance Forum and sets out a framework for the resourcing and coordination of the ACT’s legal assistance emergency response in times of emergency,” said Mr Corbell.

“This is the first plan of its kind in Australia and will serve the needs of Canberrans who in the time of adversity in a major emergency require legal assistance but also sets a benchmark for other jurisdictions to follow in this important area of law.”
