Police arrested a man after he allegedly rammed his neighbour’s car and threatened her with a sledgehammer.
The 41-year-old man from Theodore faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Tuesday (17 June) sporting a large black eye that was swollen shut.
The court heard he wanted to represent himself in the proceedings, but Magistrate James Lawton ordered him to be taken to hospital for a mental health assessment and return to court at a later date.
An ACT Policing spokesperson alleged that at about 4 pm on Monday (16 June), the man rammed his neighbour’s car with his own vehicle before getting out and verbally abusing her.
He then allegedly grabbed a sledgehammer and returned to his neighbour’s property, but was scared off by another person.
When officers arrived shortly afterwards and tried to speak to the man, he refused to engage with them.
“Police later entered the man’s home and arrested him,” the police spokesperson said.
Region is not naming the man while he undergoes a mental health assessment. He has been charged with possessing an offensive weapon and property damage.
