Tased in Palmerston

A 21-year-old NSW man was arrested yesterday evening (June 1) after he assaulted an ambulance officer and police officer in Palmerston.

About 11.20pm police responded to a request for urgent assistance from an ACT Ambulance Service officer in Tinderry Street, Palmerston. ACT Ambulance Service officers were at the location medically assisting the 21-year-old man.

While ACT Ambulance Service officers were treating the man, he became aggressive and made a number of threats towards the ACT Ambulance Service officers. Due to the safety concerns and aggressiveness of the man, the ambulance officers requested urgent assistance from police.

Prior to the arrival of police, the man left the area but returned when police arrived.

The man aggressively confronted a police officer before an attempt was made to arrest him. During the arrest, the man violently resisted and assaulted the police officer.

Due to the seriousness of the assault upon the police officer, a sergeant subsequently drew and discharged his Taser at the man. As a result, the man was subdued and taken into custody and conveyed to the ACT Watch House.

The 21-year-old man has been charged with two counts of common assault. He was granted watch house bail and will face the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.

This article is terribly one-sided… Has no one put thought towards reasons why the man in question may have been reacting in the manner he did? I’m not saying assault is okay, I am saying it is more often than not provoked in some way. Also I’d like to point out that ambo and police officers are people too, and whilst most do a good job some can, and sadly do, use their strength and power (such as tasers, or knee locks) inappropriately which may fuel a situation. They can also misjudge a situation and react unnecessarily. There is clearly a lot more to this story, and I am appauled by the suggestions of shooting a person because of one incident that has not even been thoughroughly reported. Keep in mind you have no idea of the mans character or the whole situation. Now go and attack me for giving another view, you crazy rioters.

Don’t bother arguing with Stevianne, she a hardline crazy tree hugging, cat lover that honestly believes that there are no bad people in the world, just bad government officials!

Perfectly ok to Tase a frootloop while they are cuffed, they could be harming themselves or posing a threat to others. You can still hurt someone with your hands tied, take no chances with these people, 9 times out of ten, thay are not worth saving!

On a brighter note, I’ll be back living in Canberra by years end. You have been warned!

I prefer taserised, or taserationalerised.

What about taserate?

Regardless it would be a shocking experience!!

I heard the officer was all amped up before going out on duty.

Has anyone stopped to think that since there is obviously no physical debilitation that this must have been a mental health callout?

Someone has freaked out of his tree, an ambulance has been called, police have been called and it has ended with a taser.

This is a very sad story.

Unless, of course, you know of anyone capable of fighting when suffering illness or injury that requires the service of an ambulance. Then I would be wrong.

I thought Taser was a brand name?
