ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to an aggravated robbery of a taxi driver in Holt early this morning (Tuesday, 5 July).
Around 2.55am the taxi was sent by dispatch to Grimmet Close, Holt. On arrival the driver discovered the house to which he had been sent had no lights on.
While he waited he observed two people walk out of the park area adjacent to Grimmet Close and approach his taxi. After a short conversation one of the men produced a knife and demanded he hand over his possessions. The driver gave them his mobile phone. The offenders ran back into the park area.
One of the offenders is described as a male Caucasian with a fair complexion, in his early 20s, wearing a dark coloured beanie, dark trousers and a dark top.
Superintendent Mick Calatzis said offences against taxi drivers will not be tolerated.
“This is the third time an offence of this nature has occurred in the past three weeks. Police will be talking to representatives of the taxi industry today about reducing their exposure to this sort of crime,” Superintendent Mick Calatzis said.
Police urge anyone who may seen people in the park around this time to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.
