I know i’m probably asking the wrong question, but can anyone tell me where to find blackberries now?
I know there used to be some along the bike path behind the rspca, but are there any other stashes around?
Nom Nom Nom.
Fond memories of blackberry picking around here as a kid back in the late 60s.
Uncle had a Landcruiser with one of those huge roof racks on it that come out over the bullbar, so he would just nudge it into the biggest bushes and we’d go up top to get all the best fruit no-one else could reach.

That’s a gorgeous picture!
My thanks. The wife and daughter collected two buckets full of blackberries, and they are wonderful at the moment. I strolled aorund for many miles to walk the mutts, aiming the camera at various things to try out a new polarising filter I’ve just purchased. Turns out the best shot of the bunch was back where I started from, back where they were picking.
I’ll be making some blackberry vodka soon I think.
We used to ‘blackberry’ as kids. Watch out for those brown snakes though. Once you have one come out at you from the bushes, you don’t forget in a hurry.
Whatever you do, don’t mention the mulberries or olives near Yarralumla Nursery
Or the heavily laden apple tree right next to the bike path… somewhere. Apple pie last weekend, blackberry muffins yesterday. More picking soon to try out the blackberry and apple crumble recipe in Slow Food, and will need a bucket full for jam.
I confirmed with TAMS last week that there has been no blackberry spraying anywhere east of the Murrumbidgee. From memory they have been sprayed bits of northern Namadgi, and two other places I can’t remember. I didn’t really pay attention as there are so many blackberries closer to home.
A bloke drove past us up the track & looked at us funny when we offered hime some peaches. He took them reluctantly but he looked puzzled.
My kids had a great time so did the dog. Great family time early on a Sunday morning.

So what was with all this blackberry picking? I saw some people doing this off Lady Denman Drive and also in parts of the arboretum, which had an open day of sorts on Sunday.
One of my work colleagues also went picking out near Pialligo.
A) they are so emspensive in the supermarkets.
B) they taste so much better fresh & in season.
Be quick Holden, you only have a couple of weeks & with the lack of spraying in the ACT currently they are plentiful.
Hit the forest tracks off the Cotter Rd for mine on Saturday arvo…first of the season – sweet, rich luscious and juicy…and Ms bb did a wonderful blackberry cheesecake for dessert last night.
I’d forgotten about blackberries…
But the Murrumbidgee River Corridor downstream of Pine Island\Lake Tuggeranong out towards Kambah Pool is being choked with them.

We hit Corin for ours yesterday. Bonus of the day was a peach tree fully loaded with ripe peaches & hardly any sign of being eaten by bugs. Had a beautiful peach crumble and an apple & blackberry pie for dessert last night (Mrs KB is a great cook) with our lamb roast.
Well worth the cuts & abraisions for the fruit.
