Smart thinking, Paul D, it worked a treat!
Give us a hoy when you come to Canberra – a schooner or two (large pint) awaits you!
Cheers for all your comments. I’m a student at Southampton University on the south coast of England, I posted on this blog after searching for christmas tree competitions that we could enter to let people see our tree. We figured there was no point in doing all that work and not showing it off. As for citing measurements in metres – we use the metric system in the UK. To do the movement in the video we set up a slope which went from a raised point close to the tree to the floor further from the tree. We put a section of carpet on the slope for grip and put the camera on a small tripod, then for every bottle we moved the camera 3mm!!! It took a long time but we think it was worth it. We removed all the labels so that we had a fully green tree, the lights inside the bottles could be seen, and the bubble lamp in the centre could glow through.
Enjoy the video.
Great work!
Paul D., how did you do that slow crab-left around the tree as it was going up?
If he’s a pom, give him citizenship I say. By the looks of all that beer drunk, he’s going a fair bit of Aussie somewhere in his bloodline anyway. Onya mate!
I’m blown away. This making-of video is even more impressive than the christmastime photos we saw of the tree itself! Who is this guy, and if he’s a pom, why is he posting on this blog, and citing measurements in metres?
In any case he’s a genius. Favourited!
