Jim Dusty will be launching his new Lucky Dip tapes tonight at The Phoenix, with the show starting from 8.30 pm. Photo of Jim Dusty by Dust On The Shelf.
Jim Dusty is a self-confessed “outback emo”, unashamedly plaintive and bleeding-hearted in his folk tunes rich with imagery and feeling. His EP, “Taking Inventory”, was a big favourite with audiences both Canberran and beyond. Now Jim is back with a new release called “Lucky Dip” – and, true to its name, it is a random swag of Jim Dusty tunes, every tape featuring its own unique playlist. If you want one, you better head over to The Phoenix on Wednesday, as Jim Dusty plays with Evan Buckley, Jamie Leone and Hamish Hastings, and launches the Lucky Dip tapes!
Speaking of new releases, Dalmacia will be releasing their new single, “Hold My Space”, with a big line-up in Signs & Symbols, Powder Blue, Lefty and HYG at Transit Bar on Thursday night. On Friday, Perverts Again, all the way from Cleveland USA, will be taking to the stage at the Phoenix with New Age Group, Dog Name and Alien Abduction Fantasy.
Saturday’s list of gigs is too huge to condense, but some shows to look out for include Azim Zain & His Lovely Bones at the Polo, DOPE RIFF FEST at The Basement which features an enormous line-up including HYG, The New Party and The Barren Spinsters, as well as Brisbane stoner rock gods Death By Carrot, who will also be playing an acoustic set earlier in the day at Smith’s Alternative from 1 pm.
