The Uni Pub brawl

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to a large disturbance at a city pub over the weekend.

About 12.50am on Sunday, December 11, police were called to a large disturbance outside the Uni Pub on London Circuit between patrons and security staff.

Two men suffered injuries and were taken to The Canberra Hospital for treatment.

The investigation into the incident is continuing with police following up on the injuries sustained by the two males later today.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.

Lets hope the footage is intact.The premises owns the equipment. The premises employs to bouncers.

I hope that whatever the guys were doing was worthy of the beating they were given. I doubt it though.

No doubt the CCTV will be found to have malfunctioned at that time, as is so often the case.

A few thoughts on this sort of thing:

(1) Anyone who kicks someone in the head should be charged with murder should they die. It is an act that is intended to seriously harm the victim and their death is an entirely foreseeable outcome. I think its totally unreasonable that the attacker can argue in their defence that they didn’t intend to kill.
(2) The job of bouncers is to remove troublemakers from the situation to prevent further trouble. It is not to escalate the situation or take revenge on someone who has insulted them or whatever (to challenge their steroid atrophied manhood). If bouncers have done what #4 says they should be removed from the bouncing profession.
(3) If an establishment can’t control its apes (I mean bouncers) they should be delicensed.

Sounds awful. Presumably you and the other people who witnessed this made a statement to police about what you saw?

If you find yourself in a fight, and it’s a fair fight (ie the odds are even, or any other evidence of fairness) then you’ve made a bad mistake right from the start.

The standard military approach is that you don’t attack someone unless the odds are at least 3 to 1, and preferably 10 to 1, so 7 to 2 sounds about right to me as a starting point

I’m not defending the bouncers, just saying that if I was in their position I would hope for similar odds. However, kicking a bloke in the melon when he’s pinned is the equivalent of shooting prisoners, and that is The Wrong Thing To Do.
