Westfield Belconnen was kept busy after numerous fires were detected within the mall and a number of hoax bomb threats made (Monday, May 30).
About 11.35am police were contacted by ACT Fire Brigade in relation to a small fire near the service elevator on the ground floor near K-Mart. The fire was extinguished by staff prior to attendance by emergency services.
Another small fire started at about 2pm in the loading bay area with a minor section of the mall evacuated.
Westfield Security also received a number of phone calls during this time, alleging that a bomb was inside one of the vacant stores.
A 29-year-old Evatt man is assisting police with enquiries.
