Architectural style and timeless aesthetics collide in the Botanical building on 2 Forbes Street, an apartment development in Turner that seeks to change the landscape of housing in Canberra.
This development, already underway with preliminary on-site works, offers one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom apartments, as well as penthouse options.
The building immediately stands out with its unique aesthetics and classic colour palette.
“The architect really set out to create a building on strong architectural principles. They described the style as ‘crafted modernism’ and from the photos it’s easy to see why it will be a special building,” LJ Hooker Projects Managing Director Andrew Ligdopoulos says.
The styling and design are truly special, creating warm, comfortable communal spaces as well as a stunning view from every aspect.
“The development was designed with the intent to really make something special in Canberra, that reminds people of the best examples of residential homes globally while being uniquely Canberran. The base will even reflect old Canberra red brick using Australian-made materials,” Andrew says.
The development will also feature communal spaces crafted for relaxation and practicality, such as a pool, spa, gym, steam room, sauna and grand foyer.
The best of health and wellness will be right there in the building.

The apartments themselves are sure to delight residents.
The architect and designers have applied a lighter touch here, choosing quality materials, warm tones, high ceilings and large windows to bring in natural light and create living spaces worthy of such an incredible exterior.
“They’ve done a beautiful job. The apartments are going to be such great places to live. The design of the apartments is centred toward maximising daylight hours, and all of the apartments, even the one-bedrooms, are larger than average apartments of that type,” Andrew says.
Terrazzo-style tiles, timber joinery and a sleek modern design make the living spaces comforting and warm, ditching the cooler tones that dominate many developments.
The design firm SJB Architects thoughtfully designed the interiors, exteriors and communal spaces, and with the 2023 Interior of the Year award from the World Architecture Festival and the Premier’s Prize from the 2024 NSW Architecture Awards under their belt, it’s no wonder the development is so striking.

Placed perfectly on Northbourne Avenue with easy access to Civic as well as the surrounding suburbs, Botanical is as central as a home can be in Canberra.
“The Botanical is right on the light rail corridor, less than a kilometre to Civic and Lonsdale Street, and it’s just a short and quite pleasant walk to ANU. You couldn’t ask for a better spot to be,” Andrew says.
The location is a big plus for those looking for a more walkable location, where the best restaurants, parks, schools and entertainment are just a short stroll or cycle away.
“Anyone living in Botanical wouldn’t have to use their car much, if at all. Although, of course, each apartment is provisioned for EV charging, which is a big draw with new developments,” Andrew says.
Boasting an ideal locale, a fantastic design and incredible communal spaces, the Botanical development is set to make waves in the Canberra architecture world. The site of the development at 2 Forbes Street currently houses an exact apartment model for those looking to see the magic in person.
The development is due for completion in 2027, and early works are already underway.
