ACT Policing were out in force over the long weekend as part of Operation Stay Alert conducting 1,533 Random Breath tests this long weekend, 12 people recorded positive results.
From 8-11 June, police joined forces with NSW Police Force to target speeding, drink-driving and driver fatigue on the long weekend.
Around 7am Friday (June 8 ) police were conducting RBT on Streeton Drive in Rivett when they noticed a white Holden Commodore driving on the opposite side of the road. The Stirling woman returned an AC of 0.114 and was issued with an Immediate Suspension Notice. She had her two children in the car with her.
There were 181 Traffic Infringement Notices (TINs) and 53 cautions issued for various offences including speeding.
During the long weekend ACT Policing apprehended a 22-year-old Narrabundah woman travelling 130km/h in a 70km zone on Mugga Lane, Symonston.
20 drivers underwent roadside drug screening tests and four of those indicated the presence of a proscribed drug in their system.
Acting Superintendent Rod Anderson said police were generally pleased with driver behaviour.
“There were no fatalities in the ACT during the long weekend. In fact we only recorded four collisions in the four day period and of those none of the occupants suffered major injuries,” Acting Superintendent Anderson said. “This means Canberrans are getting the message, it’s about saving lives”.
ACT Policing and NSW Police Force will continue to work together through the winter period and the Snow Safe campaign to keep the roads safe for all road users.
