A 20-year-old Wanniassa man was arrested and charged yesterday (Saturday, June 9) for stalking and impersonating a police officer.
Police will allege that the man contacted a woman on numerous occasions over the past week after she had requested him to cease contact with her. Following this, the man contacted a business on City Walk in Civic yesterday, claiming to be a police officer to try to gain information on one of their employees, the same woman.
Police arrested the man after he attended the business around 11.45am yesterday. He was taken to the ACT Watch House, where he was charged with two counts of impersonating a police officer and one count of stalking.
The man will face the ACT Magistrates Court tomorrow morning (Monday, June 11).
Superintendent Paul Shakeshaft praised the swift arrest by police yesterday, highlighting the seriousness of stalking and impersonating a police officer.
“Police arrested the man within half an hour of receiving reports from the business yesterday. This shows that ACT Policing treats matters like this very seriously and if you are caught, you will face criminal charges,” Superintendent Shakeshaft said.
