The thing that I found best about the trailer in the pic, is that the plant material in question could have been squished down inside the cage without too much effort.

There are several locations in the ACT that will take your green waste for free (or gold coin donation). Frankly, this is not as convenient as a green waste bin, but it is free and all you have to do it get it there.

So, not free then – I estimate it costs me $10 in petrol to get to West Macgregor. Oh, and $50 to hire a trailer for the day.

Call it my own form of civil disobedience, but unless I have enough to fill a trailer a couple of times over, into the bin it goes (over several weeks if necessary).

So your after a transport service that runs until ridiculous hrs with fark all clientele AND a green waste service to accommodate those tightarses without a car

A couple of months ago at the Corkhills green waste site in Mugga Lane a motorbike pulled up next to where I was unloading my trailer. The rider then took one plastic shopping bag full of weeds from his side carrier and emptied them on the site, put the plastic bag back in the pod, and took off.

Sure the amount of petrol he used to ride from his house probably offset his ecodumping, but I’m sure he had a nice green glow about him for the rest of the day…

I do have a car, but it’s not particularly suitable for transporting piles of green waste.

And I get the pruning done by a gardner who takes away the waste for me. But obviously that ain’t cheap.

Because it tells you not to on the lid! Not that is stops anyone. Perhaps it’s because green waste can be “recycled” and shouldn’t be tossed with the regular rubbish.

Just noting that the Eurobodalla Shire provides green rubbish collection for all its residents, at least in towns or ‘villages’, as they call them. There is a green bin provided and they also do pick ups of larger cuttings (not as large as the Triffid in the picture, of course). Perhaps this should be provided in the ACT, although it would undoubtedly increase the rates.

My green waste bin was just collected a few minutes ago. For larger loads, there’s a free green waste drop depot in quangers.

Green waste is one area where ACT is lagging.

australia is lacking in recycling/garbage sorting full stop i have discovered. the germans sort their rubbish into FIVE different bins!!!

So why did the ACT Government decide not to introduce household green waste bins?
