Wait – you actually think that:-
a) people under the legal drinking age don’t consume alcohol; and
b) people without licences (whether suspended or never attained) don’t drive?

I wish the rest of the world was as naive as you are.

The argument to raise the legal drinking age and/or legal driving age gets rolled out every now and then ‘in the name of safety’ with the usual ‘the youth of today is so irresponsible’ line following soon after.

All it will do is make more people want to break the law, and punish those who shouldn’t be punished – how about instead of raising these requirements, the minority of people who break the law start being punished/reprimanded appropriately? There are people in this world who are over the age requirements you’ve suggested who still can’t responsibly handle alcohol or a licence, (this has been shown by some of the AFP Media Releases recently on drink driving) and they’re normally the ones you should be more worried about than the pesky P-platers and youth in the city on a Saturday night.

It’s easy to bash on the youth of today being irresponsible, yet I think a lot of people who do the bashing need to remember they too were once young members of the community who did things (sometimes) just as irresponsible – there just wasn’t the same media spotlight and public outcry over it.

The breath analysis is a mechanical/chemical/electrical process which has no care for the legal nuances of assumed innocence.

All drink drivers are getting off too lightly. around a 1/3 caught are repeat offenders 3,4,5 times or more, obviously the courts are to lenient and people are not taking any notice of their punishment. They don’t see it as punishment but a set back for a few weeks. How many more cars do we have to see rapped around trees and poles with injured passengers by disqualified repeat offenders running from police.

Gotta love it, he can’t even drink alcohol legally yet he’s a repeat offender. Lets hope he’s sterile so he can’t pollute the gene pool with offspring.
