FYI – “Limestone Lizzy” died around 2006-2007.
The poor woman suffered from mental illness. She self-medicated with drugs in an attempt to function, despite her mental anguish.
it is a terrible situation. And is true what people are saying about jail not facilitating rehabilitation. But what else do you do? wait until we have something better. Not realistic or beneficial for society.
I personally like the idea of ‘capping’ (ala the tripods) all criminals for the duration of their punishment. Reducing their ability for creativity and deception. If they can’t be rehabilitated then they wear the cap for life. Little cost, they can still maintain normal lives AND don’t threaten us with antisocial behaviour.
Pretty sure I just heard on the Prime Teev news that she’s been sentenced to the full 2 years.
You’ll all be seeing her in two years – twice as f**ked up. (I think I said that before, but this site has a terrible feeling of deja vu with every second article).
And Pandy, I’m sorry to say I honestly believe you’d do what you say.
I hope she doesn’t get locked up. If we want her to be punished she should be sentenced to continuing living her already miserable life. Keeping going the way she is, she can’t have many more years left on this earth. Capital punishment by default.
Haven’t worked out the public safety angles yet.
I hear that since nobody told her she couldn’t bring the drugs along, she may be in the clear.
Legally speaking, given that she’s just made extremely public her addiction to drugs, this’ll be a hard one for the prosecution.
I heard 3 months jail. Very dissapointing Ron! Oh and Boomacat, yeah jail is a bad place, but being a smacked out idiot, that kills someone, shows no remourse and breaches her bail should go to jail. And for a lot longer than she got
Limestone lizzy has a job with a regular income, something that gets her out in the fresh air, social interaction and no heavy lifting.
AJW is a gormless pillock… No comparison really
Anyone else notice that ‘slag’ is just ‘gals’ backward. And Amber certainly seems a bit backward.
And keith, she’s a slag who killed a valuable member of our society, whilst breaking many, many laws that you and I uphold.
Do you have a more fitting name for her?
Ah boomacat, keep it up sunshine. The rest of us in society will contuinue to laugh at your sad sorry lesso commo pinko arses.
Prison in this case is both as punishment for her and to protect the rest of us from her. I don’t think she is showing that she is a particularly good role model for her daughter. No one so far has said can her and let dad take care of the girl.
And what will be different when she comes out of prison – though it does make some people wakeup – but all to few? I have no argument with her being given an element of punishment, but in the end what do we, society want? Will she come out of prison better or worse? What are the effects on her daughter – who has no blame in this at all?
as to those who comments are limited to calling her a slag etc, well i feel sorry for your outlook on life. cant you put some decent points across without being verbally offensive?
“He opted against enforcing the two-year suspended sentence…” Why bother using a suspended sentence if sanctions won’t be imposed for breach of the conditions of that sentence?
The courts should be both a mechanism to enforce the law and a way to deter others from offending. Some deterrent, seeing a repeat and arguably serious offender get off lightly again and again. People get all huffy about Parish Hilton getting special treatment because she’s famous, well no hopers get it just as good it would seem.
In the paper this morning:”He [Chief magistrate Ron Cahill] opted against enforcing the two-year suspended sentence he handed down last month … however he foreshadowed a jail sentence of some months.”
lumnock, haven’t you seen neighbours ? she can have her daughter in gaol with her !
You people are f**king perverse, how can you cheer someone being sent to prison?
Notwithstanding her offences, and the fact it is sometimes inevitable that someone face a prison sentence, it is nothing to cheer about. Prison is an awful place.
Why don’t you take up a hobby (ie learn to read big words then find a good book) rather than sitting around salivating over the misfortunes of others?
Hang on, sorry to double post. Dad said that she was given a 2 year suspended sentence. She broke the conditions by taking drugs in the other week. They will sentence her again next Thursday, it is hopeful that she will get her suspended sentence issued.
We can only hope Ron makes the right decision.
Well, from my mum talking to people that work in the area they say 2 years. One can only hope. On second thought it may only be 2 or 3 months.
“Mr Cahill is likely to sentence Westin to two or three jail” – Just don’t know what the missing word is.
It would make sense to me months due to the fact that the most the ACT system can hand out it 2 years.
So while that sucks, be glad she is going to jail.
I can’t help thinking causing a death while evading police after skipping court is worth more than two years – perhaps ten?
Does anyone have a copy of the judgement? I’m really keen to know what the circumstances were that got her such a light sentence.
Yeah – she was given a chance and she pissed it away…silly girl. Still two years for killing someone……you could argue she is still getting off very lightly.
The slag will most likely get off with a slap on the wrists. Again.
2 Years? I hope that is correct, because on 2CC this afternoon, the newsreader said 2-3 months, which would be an appallingly light sentence.
If it is really 2 years, then Ron Cahill is a hero!
