A 38-year-old Weston man was caught drink driving on Sunday morning (September 4) with a reading more than four times the legal limit.
Around 2.15am police stopped a vehicle on Streeton Drive in Weston in order to conduct a roadside breath test on the driver. The driver undertook a breath test, which returned a positive result.
The man was arrested and taken to Woden Police Station where he returned a breath alcohol reading of 0.241. As a full licence holder, he is subject to a 0.05 blood alcohol level. This man has been convicted of drink driving on five previous occasions, and will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.
Sergeant Jason Kennedy, Acting Officer in Charge of Traffic Operations said this latest incident is very alarming given the man’s previous offending and high reading detected.
“It should be very concerning to all road users that people like this purposely drive on our roads with absolutely zero consideration for other people’s safety” he said.
Last week (August 29 to September 5), ACT Policing caught a total of 17 drink-drivers, 11 of whom were repeat offenders. Eight of the drivers were holders of restricted licences, which carry a zero blood alcohol requirement.
