Where to find konnyaku in Canberra?

But on reading the full sentence (opp. King O’Malleys)… Ummm… that’s a Korean Grocery store.

But they do have a nice range of Japanese food items.
– Konnyaku (made in Gunma prefecture in Japan, the origin of all konnyaku)
– Natto (fermented soy beans – yeah that stuff that half of Japanese, especially those damn Oosaka-jin, detest it)
– Unagi (eel – yeah, they’ll eat anything, but not to the awesome extent of Chinese. Hats off.)
– Oden set (hot pot stuff for winter – fish cake plus various other things including konnyaku)
– Umeboshi (pickled ‘plum’ – not really, but there’s no equivalent fruit in the Western world. Great for hangovers. They actually have QUALITY umeboshi, albeit expensive, and not the cheap’n’nasty stuff.)

Even if some of them are Korean manufactured, Japanese would definitely drool over (not just due to the lack of Japanese food in Canberra, but the quality is good).

However, I should confess that I am very biased with my positive opinion of this shop. Simply because the lady (owner?) at the counter is always friendly.

I have found it at the fyshwick markets asian grocer, they sell it in the big blocks

The Phillip store is called Ah Choo’s. Named by a fifth generation Australian Born Chinese with a sense of humor back in the 80’s. Now run by Herman – who is of Chinese ethnicity from Indonesia and a very funny man. It’s a fantastic store.

The Asian grocery in Phillip has them (can’t remember the name), as does the place that moved into where the Hub used to be in Gungahlin.

you can also get them at woolies now, under Mr Changs brand Low cal noodle. its in the asian isle.
