ACT Policing has seized a second vehicle within a 24 hour period after an organised burn-out event last night (Wednesday, December 5).
Around 10.35pm police attended Brindabella Road, Coree in response to an anonymous report of burn-out activity.
Police observed a white Holden Commodore engaging in burn-outs, causing circular tyre tracks on the road, excessive smoke and a strong odour of burning rubber.
Police activated their emergency lights and sirens, causing the driver to stop. His vehicle was seized by police and taken to the ACT Exhibit Management Centre.
The driver will be summonsed to face court at a later date.
Traffic Operations Superintendent Kylie Flower said police in line with its Ministerial Direction will continue to focus on road safety issues, particularly in relation to anti-social and dangerous driving behaviours such as burnouts, speeding, street racing and other irresponsible driving behaviours.
“Our primary responsibility is the safety of everyone in Canberra. If people choose to break the law then they should be prepared to wear the consequences,” Superintendent Flower said.
Under section 5 of the Road Transport (Safety and Traffic Management) Act 1999, police may seize vehicles for offences of street racing, speed trials, burnouts and menacing driving. Vehicles can be seized for up to 90 days for a first offence and may be seized and forfeited to the Territory for a second offence if ordered by the Courts.
