ACT Policing has arrested a 31-year-old man of no fixed abode after a 10-minute vehicle pursuit this morning (Monday, January 2) which ended on Mugga Lane, Isaacs.
Around 5.55am today, a City Patrol team in Reid became suspicious of erratic driving by the driver of an orange-coloured Holden Barina with Queensland registration plates.
Police activated warnings lights and sirens to attempt a traffic stop on the vehicle but the driver ignored them, and accelerated away. A pursuit ensued which lasted for around 10 minutes and travelled through several suburbs including Russell, Barton, Forrest, Deakin, Hughes, Garran, O’Malley and finally Isaacs. The vehicle struck two median strips and police were preparing to deploy stop sticks when the Barina came to a halt on Mugga Lane.
The driver was taken into custody and police seized multiple items of interest from the vehicle, including suspected stolen property. The alleged offender also admitted stealing the vehicle from Braddon.
The alleged offender will be charged with a number of offences including vehicle theft, driving whilst disqualified, and reckless/furious driving. He will face the ACT Magistrates Court tomorrow (January 3) when police will oppose bail.
