Tributes have poured in for a woman described as “everyone’s champion”, following her death on the Monaro Highway.

Jane Faulder, 60, died after being struck by a vehicle on Friday (25 September).

A NSW Police spokesperson said that at about 6:30 pm, emergency services were called to the Monaro Highway after reports a woman had been hit by a vehicle about one kilometre south of Bredbo.

Paramedics treated Ms Faulder, but she died at the scene.

Friend Jen Hinton wasn’t surprised by the outpouring of tributes following her death.

“She was known across the community,” she told Region.

“I think it just goes back to her personality. She was such a really fun person to be around – hardworking, just a real joy to have in the room.”

The two women met through the theatre group Queanbeyan Players.

Ms Hinton was a musical director for three shows – productions of Guys and Dolls, South Pacific and The Sound of Music – where she worked alongside Ms Faulder.

“She’s been a well-loved member of the theatre community in Canberra and the surrounds.

“She was just such a vibrant person … She was just such an awesome person.”

When Ms Hinton thinks of Ms Faulder, she remembers her kindness, including for animals and her fellow humans.

“She was the sort of person that would take people under her wing in productions as well, [especially] younger people.

“She was a friend to everyone. I can’t think of anyone who disliked Jane. In the theatre community, that’s sometimes a bit of a novel [thing].

“Everyone loved Jane. That’s one of the things that I would say. No one ever had a bad word to say about her.”

Ms Hinton remembers Ms Faulder as one of the “hardest working” cast members, who was always able to diffuse negative energy in a room.

“She was such a vibrant person – and she was funny, too.”

The Deanne Calisthenics Club paid tribute to Ms Faulder, who was a member of their Masters team.

“Her warmth, friendship and contribution to our club and the wider calisthenics community will be remembered fondly by so many,” they said.

“We extend our deepest sympathies to Jane’s family and friends, and to her many fellow calisthenics team members and all those who had the privilege of knowing her.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Calisthenics ACT (CaliACT) said Ms Faulder would be “missed deeply” and “remembered with gratitude”.

“Jane was a cherished part of our community for over 50 years, known for her dedication to our sport, her warm spirit, and the way she gave of herself so generously.

“Across her many roles: performer, volunteer and steadfast supporter, Jane shaped our community with kindness, commitment, and a genuine love for calisthenics. She lifted others up, celebrated their achievements, and brought joy and encouragement wherever she went.”

Ms Faulder was a life member of CaliACT, served on Club and CaliACT committees, and worked to establish the ACT Solo Grading Committee.

The Australian Calisthenic Federation described her as “everyone’s champion”.

“She was the first to lift others up, cheering on competitors from every club and celebrating their successes,” they said.

A NSW Police spokesperson said the driver of the vehicle, a 54-year-old man, was uninjured and was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

Investigations are ongoing.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
