Woman mugged walking past Glebe Park. It's the Manhattan vibe!

ACT Policing is calling for witnesses to a robbery at Glebe Park on Saturday evening (11 August).

Between 10.30pm and 11pm, a woman was walking along Akuna Street, past Glebe Park towards Bunda Street, when she was approached from behind by a man with a dark complexion.

The man is described as approximately 20-30 years old and 180cm tall (5’11”) with a lean build. He was clean shaven and had close cropped black hair. He was wearing a white puffy jacket with a Nike symbol on the back and dark pants. He was not carrying anything.

After asking if the woman had any money, the man grabbed her bag, pulling it from her shoulder and snapping the strap. He then ran into Glebe Park where he discarded her bag and stole her wallet.

The man was not carrying any weapons. No threats were made or injuries sustained during the robbery.

It was 11pm at night.

I’m white and I’d probably be described as having a dark complexion in that situation.

Perhaps the AFP could put out a media guide explaining the terms they use in their media releases to clear up their terminology.

Refugees claim to be fleeing violence, not to be the perpetrators of it. Refugees claim to want a better life, you don’t go about that by mugging people. Unless you used to kill them too I guess.

Agree with the other poster, those flats have been a shithole for as long as I can remember, well before the recent arrivals. Even if they had good intentions, being surrounded by drug dealers, domestic and non domestic fights, thievery and so on isn’t exactly going to be a positive influence on them. Large scale public housing is always going to be a crime epicentre which spreads out from where ever it’s located, these should all be torn down (they’re an eyesore anyway) and the inhabitants dispersed. Many of these people are not fit to be next to each other, let alone the spattering of decent people unfortunate enough to be housed there and not able to get out.

I simply think a woman should be able to near or through a public park, not even particularly late at night, without some feral (who probably already receives way more than he needs from Centrelink) accosting her and snatching her purse. I find it even more offensive if we let this person into our country on “humanitarian” grounds, costing the taxpayer a fortune, just so they could end up making victims of the humans we already have.
