Liberal Leader Zed Seselja has announced his “Seniors Plan”:

ACT Opposition Leader Zed Seselja announced today that if elected, a Canberra Liberals Government will establish a land bank for aged care accommodation and retirement villages, re-establish the Office of Ageing in the Chief Minister’s Department, review seniors’ concessions for retirement village residents and conduct a seniors’ transport study. Mr Seselja said this is on top of the Canberra Liberals’ plan to lower the cost of living for seniors through not tripling rates, cutting car registration instalment payment penalties, and giving every household a garden waste bin.

“A fundamental part of our plan to provide affordable housing for seniors is to establish a long term land bank reserved for retirement villages and aged care accommodation,” Mr Seselja said

“If elected, we will also re-establish the Office of Ageing in the Chief Minister’s Department. The Office of Ageing would promote and support volunteering opportunities for seniors and implement flexible working hours to help older Canberrans ease into retirement.

“We don’t believe retirement village residents should miss out on water and electricity bill concessions, so a Canberra Liberals Government would also task the Independent Competition and Regulatory Commission with securing a fairer deal on utilities for Canberra seniors regardless of where they live.

“We would also look into ways of making transport easier for seniors, on top of our previously announced shuttle bus service to in Belconnen, Gungahlin and Tuggeranong to feed into rapid bus lines.

“Our plan to clean up Canberra and fix footpaths will also help seniors, with 42 per cent citing uneven footpaths as an issue impeding their mobility.
