ACT Policing has praised the assistance of the public after locating a stolen vehicle parked in Gordon and arresting the alleged offenders involved.
The Honda CRV had been stolen as a result of a burglary in country NSW, last week.
The stolen car was subsequently sighted in Narrabundah around 10am today but when police approached the vehicle, the young person drove directly at the officer, who had to take evasive action to avoid being struck.
Around 90 minutes later, police received a report from a member of the public regarding two young people acting suspiciously around a silver vehicle parked in Gordon. Police attended the area and a short time later a 14-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl were seen to get in the vehicle.
Police attempted to apprehend the pair but the vehicle was driven off across parkland where the boy lost control of the car, struck a brick retaining wall, and fled on foot. After a brief foot chase, police apprehended both young people.
The girl has been charged with riding in a stolen motor vehicle while the boy will be charged with a number of offences including attempted burglary, ride/drive in a stolen motor vehicle, breach of bail, driving a motor vehicle whilst unlicensed, reckless/furious driving, and disobeying a police direction. Further charges in NSW are expected.
The boy will appear in the ACT Children’s Court tomorrow while the girl has been bailed to appear at a later date.
