ACT Policing is calling for public assistance following the assault of a woman near the Charnwood playing fields on Monday (April 8) evening.
About 7.20pm, a 26-year-old woman was driving her silver Ford Falcon station wagon along the access road of the Charnwood Playing Fields towards Lhotsky Street.
The woman, from Macgregor, stopped the car near the intersection when a man has suddenly opened the driver’s door and pulled the woman from the car onto the ground.
The woman managed to strike out at the man with her car keys and free herself. She then ran along Lhotsky Street in the direction of Cartwright Street to a friend’s house nearby.
The incident was reported to police around an hour later, and officers immediately conducted a search of the area but were unable to find anyone matching the description of the offender.
The man is described as African in appearance, with a thin build, tall in stature and spoke with a deep voice. He is believed to be aged in his late 20s or early 30s. At the time of the assault he was wearing a navy blue or black hooded jumper and dark coloured pants.
At the time of the assault police believe that a soccer game was underway at the Charnwood playing fields and people at the game may have witnessed the assault or seen the offender in the area.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident and hasn’t already spoken to police, or has information which may assist police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.
