Death by reversing car in Campbell

4 May 2013 | By johnboy

ACT Policing is investigating the death of a 20-year-old Belconnen man in Campbell early this morning.

Around 12.30am police were called to a disturbance at a Campbell residence.

Upon arrival police saw a man lying on the ground. It appeared he had been struck by a vehicle as it reversed.

ACT Ambulance Service attended the scene and conveyed the man to The Canberra Hospital where he died a short time later.

AFP Forensics Services and ACT Policing’s Collision Investigation and Reconstruction Team are in attendance and are processing the scene.

The driver of the vehicle is assisting police with inquiries.

Investigations are ongoing.

Excellent point, Chewy. The problem is, though, if you present some people with hard evidence or they find it themselves, they then go into a new game of “history explains it”. TheBusDriver read my disdain for lower SENTENCES given out to specific groups but deliberately and completely twisted it as if I was saying transgender people were somehow the most prolific criminals in society. Then came his rant against priests, youth and adult males.

The point is not just which group commits the most crime overall or proportionally, but what sentences are being handed out to members of different groups.

I wonder if the proportion of people convicted of crimes varies by demographic, though. For example, does the proportion of white males under age 40 who have been convicted of a crime exceed that for Aboriginal males under 40?

The point I am making refers to sentences being lower. Remember there are more men than priests and people who are transgender. Of course, besides indigenous Australians, I never said one group was more prone to criminal behaviour. Let’s focus on what I actually said: the judicial system makes far too many excuses for many people who aren’t white Anglo(-Saxon)-Celtic males. List to me the things I said about propensity to act criminally, rather than about excuses being made for individual members of certain groups who do commit crimes, leading to reduced sentences.

How about looking at the Sonja Starr research from the University of Michigan? Actually, that’s more directed at the other person who asked for evidence about sentences being lower. Higher courts (such as the Canadian example given below) have also found things like aboriginality, based on history of the people, not the individual, should be taken into account. And what exactly have I said that is so incorrect?

In my personal experience(not stating facts here because I do not have them on this matter), the biggest scum in canberra is bogan white trash.

I was so tempted to say source? 🙂 however that is pretty much a given considering white trash outnumber indigenious,transgenders etc by a huge margin.What is undeniable is that ABS figures showed that Indigenous people accounted for 25 percent of Australia’s prison population in 2009.

I won’t hold my breath for the day when the facts of the case (including any relevant reason for a lower/higher sentence) hold sway, not a person’s mere membership of a specific demographic.
