If only ACT gov could use steam for capital metro! TooT TooT.
The Rail yard is an awesome place, Sadly there is not much left of the old lines to show its history. I still want to get out to the brick works, is there still any track out there?

I well remeber seeing the 1210 locomotive sitting on the fenced off pedestal next to Wentworth Avenue when i was growing up. I was really pleased to see it restored in the late 80’s, early 90’s and then actually being used again. http://www.engineer.org.au/images/2-4.jpg
When 2CC (Music Radio) began in 1975 their frequency was 1210 (it became 1206 in late 1978) and they adopted “the old 1210” as their mascot. It sat uncomfortably alongside Rocktober and promotions like The Cleanamation Sensation.

I agree with the comment really early on in this piece that this has been forgotten as part of Canberras Centenary.
We took our then three year old to the museum because he was fanatical about trains (and Thomas the Tank Engine of course), but had a real interest in the actual engines as opposed to the make believe world of Thomas.
It’s a decent afternoons work to go on the tour, but my feedback would be that it’s an experience designed by older people for older people. The experience could be so much more – understandably it’s a workshop and potentially a dangerous place, but with a bit of funding it could be a fantastic learning experience for all ages. As it stands it’s just a bit of a shame.
