I also find it disrespectful to our community when the bombing is left to rot. The group Yarn Corner take theirs down after a short period, repair and wash them, then donate them to animal shelters as bedding.
That’s good to know, thanks for the advice.

This piece was originally used for a group project in Melbourne called ‘City Square 2013’ organised by a group called Yarn Corner. You can see the first tree it was put on if you hunt the group down on Facebook!
I absolutely loath yarnbombing and have done since the movement began circa 2003 – there was a miserable piece of a crocheted afghan throw hanging off a lightpole in the middle of a roundabout somewhere in Lyneham a few years ago, faded and moldy, then hanging in shreds. It actually looked as though it hadn’t been made by any soi-disant craftsperson but purchased “ready-made” from St Vinnies. Eventually someone could be bothered pulling the eyesore down and presumably had to stick it in their own rubbish bin. Mind you, this purple fright outside Smith’s is keeping its colour so far. Trees are pretty things – yarnbombs stuck around their trunks add absolutely nothing aesthetic to the cityscape IMO.

Have you been out to the National Arboretum to see the large scale yarn bombing there?
Yep, twice in the last month, and I consider it to be no more than graffiti of a different coat.
Not opposed to the idea per se, but the hideous mix of colours used makes for an eyesore rather than adding anything to the views up there.
