Kitchen Exhaust Fan

If you decide to install an exhaust hood make sure the exit pipe (usually 125mm) is the same size all the way to the exit point and you have a louvered auto-close exit fitting.

After weeks of research and talking to friends who had purchased externally venting range hoods, we purchased a Schweigen range hood, Australian company using German motors. Cannot fault it at all, it exhausts outside to atmosphere and is whisper quiet on the highest setting.

We can run the it on the highest setting and watch the TV without having to turn it up. The only maintenance is to place the grease vents into the dishwasher once a month and you’re one.

The quality of the range hood, how quiet it was and how it extracted was paramount to our kitchen reno. Spend the money upfront and you’ll never regret it.

I have a quasair exhaust in my kitchen, which I bought last year. I do stir-frys and lots of cooking, and love it. It is quiet on low and moderate noise on high. It gets rid of the smoke, steam etc. through ducting through the roof. the filter is also dishwasher proof so it’s easy to clean. I got it at the appliance gallery in fyshwick. Service was excellent!

It’s bound to be one of those things you’ll regret later – or it will be more trouble than it’s worth to keep the current one.

The one thing we wish we’d done with our kitchen reno is get one of the systems with the exhaust fan at the external end of the venting. We bought a good quality range hood system – but you still have to raise your voice to be heard while cooking.

It will probably be quite expensive. You’d be looking at replacing the entire row of kitchen cupboards as the old unit has probably been built into it and a small unit will look silly. There’s probably a good layer of grease under your current unit too that will be hard to get off the cupboards.

Most standard domestic stove range hoods do absolutely nothing and go nowhere as there is no venting. You would probably need to look into a more commercial unit for a proper vented solution.
