Ask RiotACT

My parents have a lot of old engines and gearboxes and one wrecked car body. Are they worth any cash if I hire a trailer and drop them off at the metal recyclers?

surely ferrous and non ferrous metal needs to be separated just like biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste.
Go through the yellow pages and ring’em up

Given queues of trucks I’ve noticed outside SIMS in Lithgow st, there must be some money.
I think that you have to separate ferrous and non-ferrous (Al, Cu)? I suspect tyres are not popular.
Personally I wouldn’t be putting engines and car bodies on a trailer with no crane – my back is worth too much:
I would ring up one of the people who come and collect from your place and offer a little money for dead cars etc.
