Both Mugga Lane and Long Gully Road are carrying much more traffic these days since Mugga Lane tip was expanded to became the sole household rubbish tip for Canberra (and Queanbeyan ?). Traffic is often banked up both ways along Mugga Lane with cars, utes, trailers, SUVs, garbage trucks, heavy trucks and vehicles, garden removal businesses vehicles, etc.
Now, when the ACT Labor/Greens Govt decided to consolidate garbage collection into Mugga Lane tip, expanding it by at least 3 times its then current size, you would have thought that road/vehicle access would have figured prominently in those deliberations. Apparently not. Like the smell from the expanded tip affecting residences, its just poor planning – again.

The current speed limit is 80kmh. It should be reduced to 60kmh.
I have seen so many near misses at the intersection of Mugga lane because there are trucks trying to get across there when cars are coming from both direction at 80kmh or above.
If the planned cemetery and crematorium were to proceed it would certainly have to be upgraded.
Agree John Moulis with the widening of this road (it gets a very dangerous mix of Cars and heavy transport).
I am afraid my next door neighbour was killed there in the late 70s, my Dad’s best mates son was also killed here in the mid 80s. It is sad to see there are still issues with this road.
Sulwood Drive is another very busy and dangerous single lane main road that is long overdue for duplication. In fact Sulwood was on the plan for duplication with Athllon and Erindale Drives until self government re-directed roads funding in the late 80s to other roads around Canberra. You can still see some of the old Bridge Pylons and Graded areas for single lane Tuggeranong main roads that had the pin pulled on promised Duplication.
